Ron Mildren says no to paid parking meters and slower speeds in Wodonga

Friday 19 September 2025

Ron Mildren today announced that if he is elected to Wodonga Council at the upcoming by-election, he will oppose plans to lower Wodonga speed limits to 30 km/h and oppose any introduction of paid parking meters in Wodonga.

“Parking meters are an unfair and lazy tax that would wipe out our commercial centre and sense of community - I will always oppose them” Mr Mildren said on Friday.

“Right now, 94 per-cent of all trips taken across Albury Wodonga are done by car – with 93 per-cent of households in Albury Wodonga owning a car.”

“Any idea to slap a tax on the way we get to work, school, sports, and the shops would be a disgrace.”

“Unfortunately, there are activists in the bureaucracy that do not want us driving cars – they want to make it as difficult as possible, by reducing speed limits, reducing parking spaces and making us pay to park our cars – I will strongly oppose any such actions”.

When I was Wodonga’s Mayor, I voted against slower speeds and parking meters. But after a new Council was elected in 2024, these issues have poked their head up again.”

If you vote 1 Ron Mildren, you will get a councillor who has the courage to stand up for our community and oppose ideas that will send us backwards”.

“My priorities reflect those of the Lake Hume Ward community, and I have the skills to deliver the results our community need right now”.

“When you vote 1 Ron Mildren in this election, you will get a councillor who is focused on delivering lower rates and better community infrastructure.

“You’ll get an experienced leader and an independent voice, with the skills, common sense, and strength to get results even when the odds are against us.”
